La bahía de los Glaciares (Glacier Bay) es una tierra de superlativos y extremos. El charrán ártico o gaviotín ártico, encaja bien aquí. Ninguna ave migra más lejos. Estos elegantes y eficientes voladores, migran desde la Antártida hasta sus lugares de reproducción en el Ártico, un viaje de ida y vuelta de 24.000 millas (38600 km). Anidan aquí, y a menudo se pueden ver volando con pescados en los picos conforme regresan a sus nidos o mientras buscan pareja. Éste está en los límites de la marea, y se ve reflejado en las aguas tranquilas y protegidas de Queen Inlet (la ensenada Queen).

Glacier Bay is a land of superlatives and extremes. The Arctic Tern fits in well here. Perhaps no bird migrates further. These graceful and efficient fliers migrate all the way from Antarctica to their Arctic breeding grounds, a 24,000-mile roundtrip. They nest here and are often seen flying about with fish in their bills as they return to nests or seek mates.
