North Crillon Glacier is covered with rocks, and some are huge. We'd climbed along the edge of the glacier and then up onto its surface. No crampons needed, there was so much rock that we only saw bare ice on the steep sections of the glacier. My friend, Kim, said, “I've had enough of all those yoga magazine photos on the beach in Hawaii! It's our turn!” In the distance on the left is the wave-scarred hillside where a giant wave in 1958 cleaned the vegetation down to bare rock.
