春先のシロイワヤギ。まだ冬の厚い毛皮が残り、無事に冬を越したことがわかります。このヤギは、カヤックから写真を撮ろうとする私より約30メートル上の岩に立っていました。氷河の末端もそうですが、岩場に近づき過ぎるのは危険です。ヤギが通った後に岩が崖から落ちてくる心配があります。大抵の観光客はグレーシャーベイ（Glacier Bay）の中央部近くのグルーミー・ノッブ山（Gloomy Knob）にいるヤギを見る場合が多いようです。

Una cabra de montaña a comienzos de la primavera, es uno de los animales más majestuosos de Glacier Bay. Aún conserva la mayor parte de su espeso pelaje, y ha conseguido sobrevivir a otro invierno. Ésta se encontraba en la cima de un acantilado, a unos 100 pies (30 metros) por encima de mí, al tiempo que apuntaba con mi cámara desde el kayak. Descubrí que, al igual que con la fachada de un glaciar, no es prudente acercarse demasiado, ya que al retirarse la cabra, una cascada de rocas cayó por el acantilado. Muchos visitantes espían a las cabras en Gloomy Knob, cerca de la parte media de la bahía.

A mountain goat in the early spring is one of Glacier Bay's most majestic animals. It still has most of its thick winter fur, and it has managed to make it through another winter. This one stood about 100 ft above me on top of a cliff, as I craned my camera up from my kayak. I found that, much like the face of a glacier, it is unwise to approach too closely, as a cascade of rocks tumbled off the cliff in the wake of the goat's path.
