デソレーション渓谷（Desolation Valley）。北米と太平洋の地殻構造プレートが合うところで頻繁に地震があり、ここでキャンプをすれば、崩れ落ちる岩の音で夜目が覚めることもあります。赤茶色と灰色の岩に覆われた部分は、ノース・クリヨン氷河（North Crillon Glacier）です。高山から岩屑を運んだ氷は殆ど見えません。ノース・クリヨン氷河の向こうにリツヤ湾（Lituya Bay）が見え、その先にはリツヤ氷河（Lituya Glacier）の末端が縞模様に見えます。右手の一番高い山はフェアウェザー山（Mt. Fairweather 4669m）です。リツヤ湾からフェアウェザー山頂まで直線で結ぶと25キロメートルの距離です。

Desolation Valley (valle de la desolación)- la sima activa entre las placas tectónicas de América del Norte y el Pacífico. Aquí los terremotos son muy frecuentes, y cuando se acampa, es probable que uno se despierte en plena noche por el sonido de rocas cayendo. Desolation Valley – this is the active seam between North America and the Pacific crustal tectonic plates. Earthquakes are frequent and when you camp there you may well be woken in the night to the sound of falling rock. Below us is North Crillon Glacier covered in red and gray rock. The ice that carried the rock from the high mountains is barely visible. The view northwest along Desolation Valley crosses the head of Lituya Bay (at sea level) and the striped terminus of Lituya Glacier. Mt.
