Before the totem poles were raised, there was a brief window of time when the poles rested on blocks on the ground in Bartlett Cove. This gave me a opportunity to take a few minutes to look closely at the details of the carvings, the colors, and the grain of the wood. I marveled at how the carver was able to make these knuckles shine through the grain. I suspect that it wasn’t by accident. If it was, I suspect that the artist might credit his hand being led by his ancestors. Photographer: Sean Neilson
