We call these 'pocket beaches' - small sand beaches flanked by rock and cliffs. In many areas they provide a critical landing where kayakers can get off the water. They are all different, unique, almost mystical places. Often there's no human footprints, only the tracks from bears, wolves and river otters. For many first-time kayakers the water journey becomes a secondary experience to the excitement of discovery and mystery at each new pocket beach. Photographer: Bill Eichenlaub
