It is moraines that scare me most. On active glaciers medial moraines are a mix of ice and rock. Usually a lot more ice than rock. Rocks on steep sloped medial moraines, like the one shown in this photo, are loose. Loose loose loose. And many are big and loose, which means the moraine rocks you are climbing up are often sitting on wet, slippery ice, and they tumble with ease. Photographer: Bill Eichenlaub
